A collection of paintings by Mary artists presented at an exhibition in Ashgabat

A striking event in the cultural life of the Turkmen capital was the opening of a representative exhibition of painters of the Mary region in the Ashgabat exhibition center, which brought together more than two hundred works from forty authors.

The Mary school of painting, conceptually formed in the 1980s, has remained a bright and productive branch of contemporary Turkmen fine arts for many years. This vernissage has become a kind of creative gift from the authors for the 31st anniversary of the country’s independence.

Thoughtful attempts at the historical and philosophical understanding of the life-giving people of the national culture were noted at the opening day of the work of recognized masters who stood at the origins of the creation of the Mary art school: Kurbangeldy Kurbanov, Chary Khummedov, Kossekmurad Nurmuradov, Annadurdy Muradaliev, Annageldy Meretgeldiyev, Ainagozel Nuryeva. However, the main distinguishing feature of the current exhibition is the presence in the list of participants of a large number of names of young authors who recently joined the ranks of the Union of Artists of Turkmenistan.

Thus, the exhibition has also become a symbol of passing on the baton of generations and preserving the enormous creative potential of the Mary school of painting – innovative in artistic forms of reflecting reality and deeply national in content.
