On November 9, a delegation from Austria headed by Foreign Minister Michael Linhart arrived in Turkmenistan as part of a tour of Central Asia .
On the same day, he was received by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov .
According to the state information agency TDH , it was noted at the meeting that representatives of the Austrian business are striving to strengthen their presence in the Turkmen market. The industrial sector, energy and transport are named as promising areas.
Then a meeting was held with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov , reports the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The diplomats discussed cooperation in the field of political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian interaction, and agreed to hold the 11th meeting of the Joint Turkmen-Austrian Commission in the first half of 2022.
It is reported that, among other things, the issue of "resolving the situation in Afghanistan" was discussed, but none of the parties gave details of the negotiations.
The meeting also included a presentation of investment opportunities, which was attended by the foreign ministers of the two countries, heads of departments of Turkmenistan and representatives of the Austrian business community.
Following the talks, the ministers signed a Cooperation Program between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Federal Ministry for European and Foreign Affairs of Austria for 2022-2023.
In his Twitter account, Michael Linhart wrote that he was "very pleased to meet with his Turkmen counterpart Rashid Meredov", at which "the development of bilateral relations, as well as regional and international issues such as Afghanistan and climate change, were discussed in depth."
In addition, a number of working meetings were held at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry aimed at developing economic relations between the two countries. Representatives of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry, Finance and Economy, Culture, Energy, Türkmenaragatnasyk (Turkmen Telecom) agency, Vnesheconombank, Chamber of Commerce and Industry and SPPT were present from the Turkmen side, TDH reported .
On the Austrian side, cooperation proposals were submitted by:
• Heidelberger Druckmaschinen Eastern Europe GmbH - manufacturer of radio broadcasting equipment;
• Rosenbauer International AG - supplier of fire fighting equipment and special vehicles;
• Waagner Biro Bridge System - transport infrastructure construction company;
• VAMED - supplier of products for medical institutions;
• consulting company Europe Consult GmbH;
• AME International - a developer of technological solutions for healthcare;
• Geppert GmbH showcasing innovative solutions for sustainable power generation;
• Osterreichische Kontrollbank AG and the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber.
The publication notes that the Austrian business has experience in implementing joint projects in Turkmenistan in the field of construction, tourism, trade, marketing and transport services, the supply of high-tech equipment for various industries.
