A regular round of the “Dialogue on Human Rights: European Union – Turkmenistan” took place in Ashgabat

Another 11th round of the Dialogue on Human Rights: European Union - Turkmenistan took place in Ashgabat. The meeting discussed issues of cooperation in the field of compliance with fundamental norms and conventions on human rights, including the implementation of humanitarian action plans.

The parties exchanged views on issues such as the development of civil society, prison issues and conditions of detention, protection of the rights of women and children, respect for the economic and social rights of people.

Issues related to the rule of law and reforms in the judicial system, including monitoring the activities of state institutions for the protection of human rights, were also discussed.

The EU delegation noted that it welcomed the efforts of Turkmenistan to implement the national action plan in the above areas. Following the meeting, the parties agreed to hold the next 12th round of the European Union-Turkmenistan Human Rights Dialogue in Brussels in 2020.
