The Central Commission for Elections and Referenda in Turkmenistan held a briefing to announce the preliminary results of the presidential election.
Correspondents of major foreign news agencies, electronic, print and other media, accredited in our country, international observers, as well as heads and journalists of national media attended the meeting.
Before announcing the preliminary results of the presidential election, the Chairman of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda in Turkmenistan briefed those present on the large-scale work done on the preparations and organisation of this significant social and political event and thanked all the participants of the electoral process. Special gratitude was expressed to foreign guests for their suggestions on improvement of the election process.
It was noted that the citizens of Turkmenistan demonstrated cohesion and unity and made an important step towards the further development of our state. It was underlined that the presidential election was held at the high organizational level.
Announcing the preliminary results of the presidential election, the Chairman of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda in Turkmenistan emphasized that 97.27 percent of voters took part in the election that testifies to the high civic engagement of the population. According to preliminary results, incumbent President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov won 97.69 percent of the vote.
Currently, the ballots are finally counted given the data received from some polling stations at the diplomatic missions and consular offices of Turkmenistan abroad, in particular, the protocols are being delivered delayed due to the time difference of the countries in different time zones.
The finally tally of the vote will be summed up and announced in the nearest time.
