Agricultural producers are exploring international experience with pest control

The Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management organized a three-day training session at the Yildyz Hotel in the capital dedicated to effective methods of pest control. The event was organized within the framework of the EU project Promoting further sustainable development of agriculture in Turkmenistan and brought together specialists from the structural units of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources for plant protection and quarantine, as well as representatives of agricultural enterprises of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan.

The meeting was moderated by SARD III project manager, international entomologist-expert Arthur Russell, who advocates the use of biological pest control methods. This is the second training this year. The first one, which includes a theoretical and practical course, was held in Ashgabat in April. According to the organizers, the training program is intended for employees of state agricultural institutions, private farmers and producers.

Kerim Saparov, head of the Department of Agrarian Reforming and Studying the World Experience of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management of Turkmenistan, emphasized that negotiations were held with representatives of all agricultural services during the preparation of the seminar agenda. Priority topics were identified, which were discussed during the meeting, including effective biological and chemical methods of pest control, in particular, with the locust and tomato mite. As noted, such trainings are aimed at providing information and methodological support to beginning agricultural producers.
