As of October 14, 2021, 1 220 532 foreigners with a residence permit live in Turkey, of which 119 445 people or 9.8% are citizens of Turkmenistan. This is reported by "Meteozhurnal" with reference to the main department of migration of Turkey.
In terms of the number of residence permits in Turkey, Turkmen citizens are in second place after Iraqis. This is followed by the Syrians, Iranians and Uzbeks.
According to the statistics of Turkstat , in the pre-pandemic 2019, 80,003 migrants from Turkmenistan arrived in Turkey. For the first time, they became the second in the number of foreign citizens who arrived.
Turkey is one of the main destinations for Turkmen labor migrants due to the fact that they do not need a visa to enter. Also, the similarity of languages and the ethnic affinity of the two peoples play an important role.
