In mid-June, it became known that the Ukrainian company Road Construction Altkom received a contract for the construction of a road bridge in Turkmenistan across the bay on the Caspian Garabogaz along the Turkmenbashi-Garabogaz-Kazakh border highway.
According to the project developed by the specialists of the design institute of the Turkmenavtoyollary State Concern, its length will be 354 meters, width - 17 meters and height - seven meters above the surface of the bay. The road will be four-lane - two lanes in each direction towards the Kazakh border. In addition, the company will equip 2 km of access roads, Turkmenistan: Golden Age reported on July 27.
The construction of the bridge was scheduled to start in July and be completed in June 2024. The facility will be built on the site of an old bridge with two-pole traffic. Pedestrian zones two meters wide with artificial lighting and fencing will also be equipped here.
The highway will be a continuation of the Ashgabat-Turkmenbashi highway and will connect Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, which will increase the traffic flow and the volume of trade between the two countries , the newspaper notes.
Ex-president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov ordered to build a new bridge across the bay a year ago, in July 2021, during an inspection of the facility during a trip to the Balkan velayat.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with the head of the Altkom financial and industrial group Alexander Tislenko on April 24, when the country celebrated the Day of the Turkmen Horse. They discussed further partnership "taking into account the successful experience of joint work on the development of the transport sector."
Then, on May 25, the chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Milli Gengesh, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov , on behalf of his son , met with Tislenko, who declared his readiness to provide Turkmen partners with experience in building bridges.
At the July 21 Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia in Kyrgyzstan, President Kassym-Joomart Tokayev said that Kazakhstan supports the construction of a new highway "Turkmenbashi - Garabogaz - the border of Kazakhstan."
Previously, Altcom received large contracts for the construction of airports in Turkmenabat and Dashoguz, as well as road and railway bridges.
