On the night of August 29, at 2:52 local time, an earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred in the Caspian Sea, 50 km from Avaza. This is reported by the Volcano Discovery website.

The source lay at a depth of 10 km.

The tremors could also be felt by residents of Turkmenbashi (67 km from the epicenter), Khazar (80 km), Balkanabat (180 km) and other small settlements on the Caspian coast.
