On May 30 at 4:10 am, a serious accident occurred on the Astrakhan-Stavropol highway in Kalmykia, as a result of which a Turkmen student died, TASS reports . Three more of his compatriots were hospitalized with various injuries.

A Lada Vesta passenger car, in which students from Turkmenistan were traveling, collided with a Gazelle truck.

The victims - two girls born in 2000 and 1998 and a young man born in 2001 - are students of the Kalmyk State University, the deceased studied there.

“The condition of the patients is severe, due to combined trauma and traumatic shock. The necessary medical measures are being taken, including resuscitation, ”said Alexander Kalaev , head physician of the Republican Hospital named after P.P. Zhemchuev .

The head of Kalmykia , Batu Khasikov , expressed condolences to the families and friends of the deceased student.

“The injured are receiving the necessary medical assistance. He instructed the responsible departments to provide all possible support. I express my sincere condolences to the families and friends of the deceased. This is a heavy loss, ”Khasikov is quoted by his press service.

Condolences were also expressed by the administration of the university. The website of the educational institution says that four Turkmen students went to the consulate of Turkmenistan in Astrakhan to extend the validity of their passports, which was notified by the international department of the university.

The Republic of Kalmykia is part of the Russian Federation and borders on the Astrakhan region.

The deceased was 22-year-old Geldimyrat Yagmyrov .

“The leadership of KalmSU provides all the necessary assistance to students and their families, is in constant contact with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the consulate of Turkmenistan,” the press service of the university reports.

The website of the Turkmen consulate in Astrakhan does not report the incident .

At the end of April, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed a Decree extending until December 31, 2024 the validity of Turkmen passports, which expire between January 1, 2023 and December 30, 2024 .

In connection with the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020, Turkmenistan closed the borders for entry into the country, including for its own citizens. The Turkmen consulates do not issue new documents; for this, Turkmen citizens must return to their homeland. Since there is no such possibility now, consulates paste inserts into expired passports, which say about the extension of their validity. The validity of the passport extended in this way makes it possible to legally stay in the territory of the receiving state, but not to travel to third countries.
