Ashgabat hosted the sixth Caspian summit

Ashgabat hosted the 6th Caspian Summit chaired by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov. Presidents of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Iran Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Russian Federation Vladimir Putin arrived in the Turkmen capital to attend the meeting.

Before the start of the summit, the President of Turkmenistan held bilateral meetings with the heads of the Caspian states.

Then, during the five-sided talks of the leaders of the countries of the Caspian region in a narrow format and in an expanded format, issues of realizing the potential of the Caspian Sea and strengthening its status as a sea of peace, friendship and harmony were discussed.

During the meeting, it was noted that in the current conditions, the primary task is to maintain lasting peace, security and stability in the Caspian Sea region, to provide political and legal guarantees for the development of this region. Joint counteraction to terrorism, drug trafficking, organized crime and any other illegal activity was named among the urgent tasks in the field of security.

The heads of the Caspian states paid special attention to the development of economic partnership in the region, and in particular, to the transport and transit sector. In this regard, it was noted that the littoral countries will have to seriously work on the construction and modernization of port infrastructure, building effective logistics schemes to turn the Caspian region into a comfortable and modern space for international flows of goods and services, free from political conjuncture.

In particular, the President of Turkmenistan, speaking about the transport significance of the Caspian Sea, stressed that in this area it is possible to set an ambitious but realistic goal of turning it into an integral part of the revival of the Great Silk Road.

Also during the talks, issues of developing cooperation in the field of science, nature protection, culture and tourism in the Caspian region were discussed.

Concluding the summit, the President of Turkmenistan thanked his foreign colleagues, all the delegations for their constructivism, focus on achieving practical results, as well as for the valuable ideas and proposals expressed during the meeting. As a result of the sixth Caspian summit, a corresponding communiqué was adopted.

The results of the Ashgabat five-sided summit were announced in a statement to the media, which was made by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov.

In honor of the heads of the Caspian states, the President of Turkmenistan gave an official reception. At the end of the program of the sixth Caspian summit, the distinguished guests departed from the Turkmen capital.
