Astana was called the Nur-Sultan. Turkmen media do not report on Nazarbayev’s resignation

The first president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, suddenly resigned . The next day, the new head of the country, Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev, in his very first speech proposed to rename the capital Astana to Nursultan.

On March 23, President Tokayev signed a decree according to which Astanans now became Nur-Sultans.

At the same time, as noted by Radio Azatlyk , the Turkmen media do not comment on Nazarbayev's resignation and do not touch this topic in information programs.

Recall that in Turkmenistan in honor of the first president, the city of Krasnovodsk was also renamed, which was named Turkmenbashi - the official title of Saparmurat Niyazov .

UPD. According to Izvestia, the mayor of Astana (Nur-Sultan) Bakhyt Sultanov said that after the renaming of the Kazakh capital to Nursultan, the residents of the city will continue to be called Astana residents.

At the suggestion of the President, our city is renamed Nur-Sultan ... At the same time, we are all residents of the capital and remain residents of Astana. This is an established term, said Sultanov.
