Australia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Turkmenistan has started work

Today, on the instructions of the President of the Republic of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan G. Mamedova received the credentials from Australia's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Turkmenistan Graeme Leslie Meehan.

On behalf of the Turkmen leader, the leader of the National Parliament congratulated the ambassador on his appointment to the important diplomatic position and wished him success in strengthening the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries.

Expressing his happiness for the good wishes, the Ambassador, in turn, conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of Australian Governor-General David Horley to the President of the Republic of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

During the interview, the ambassador was introduced to the main directions, goals and objectives of the national policy of Turkmenistan, as well as the reform programs implemented in the country to rapidly develop the national economy, improve the social system and increase the welfare of citizens. The history and cultural traditions of the Turkmen people became another aspect of the meeting. The diplomat was also introduced to the structure and multi-faceted work of the Mejlis, first of all, the integrated work on improving the legal base of the country. In this regard, in order to strengthen mutual understanding and trust, to expand effective intergovernmental dialogue, a proposal was made to establish parliamentary relations.

During the discussion on the priorities of the Turkmen-Australian cooperation, the participants of the meeting noted with satisfaction that there are huge opportunities for the development of effective cooperation. Trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian systems were highlighted among the main directions of bilateral relations. Particular attention was paid to the importance of further cooperation of international organizations, first of all, within the framework of the United Nations.

At the end of the meeting, the leader of the Mejlis and the diplomat expressed their confidence that in the near future the relations between our countries will be brought to the level of full-scale cooperation in accordance with the current conditions and mutual interests, and will be successfully developed based on the goodwill of the peoples of the two countries.
