Baku: Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) has successfully launched direct flights from Baku to Malé, the capital of the Republic of Maldives. The inaugural flight landed safely at Velana International Airport, marking a new chapter in aviation connectivity between Azerbaijan and the Maldives. According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the passengers and flight crew received a warm welcome at the airport, complete with traditional wreaths symbolizing hospitality and friendship. This initiative is expected to open up new opportunities for tourists from Azerbaijan, offering a direct route to one of the world's most sought-after holiday destinations. Jamil Manizade, Chief Commercial Officer of AZAL, expressed enthusiasm for the new service, highlighting the demand for more winter tourism options in the Azerbaijani market. Ibrahim Shiuree, Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation, expressed excitement about the new connection. He emphasized that the direct flight enhances the ability of travel ers from Azerbaijan to experience the Maldives' unique beauty. Additionally, Mohamed Mihad, Chief Commercial Officer of Maldives Airports Company Limited, noted the significance of this new route, which strengthens ties between Central Asia and the Maldives, providing travelers with seamless travel options. The direct flights from Baku to Malé are scheduled twice a week, operating on Mondays and Saturdays.
