Baku: Last year, 550 million kilowatt-hours of ecologically clean “green energy” were produced by “AzerEnergy” at 32 hydroelectric power stations in Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur, APA-Economics reports citing AzerEnergy.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, one-third of this 550 million kilowatt-hours of energy, approximately 200 million kilowatt-hours, met the energy needs of the liberated territories, while the remaining two-thirds were transferred to the national energy system and distributed to meet the demand in other parts of the country. As a result, 120 million cubic meters of natural gas were saved, and 225,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions were prevented.

In 2024 alone, seven hydroelectric power stations were inaugurated in Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur with the participation of the country’s leadership. These include the largest hydroelectric power station built by “AzerEnergy” in the territories liberated from occupation in the past four years, located in the Kalbajar region – the 22.5 MW “Yukhari Vang,” the 4.3 MW “Zar,” the 2.8 MW “Zabukh” and 4.6 MW “Garigishlag” in the Lachin region, and the 10.5 MW “Shayifli,” “Zangilan,” and “Sarigihlaq” hydroelectric power stations in the Zangilan region.

Thus, President Ilham Aliyev’s instruction to transform Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur into a “green energy” zone is being implemented systematically. Over the past four years, 32 hydroelectric power stations with a total capacity of 270 MW have been put into operation, and the opening of 11 more hydroelectric stations is planned for 2025. In total, additional hydroelectric power stations with a combined capacity of 200 MW are expected to be constructed in the coming years.
