Beijing: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the meeting underscored the growing cooperation between the two nations, particularly in the areas of economic development and international influence.
Zhao Leji praised Azerbaijan's progress under President Aliyev's leadership, highlighting the country's economic achievements and enhanced global standing. He described the bilateral relations as a sincere friendship and strategic partnership, noting that the collaboration between the two countries is at an unprecedented level.
President Aliyev reiterated Azerbaijan's commitment to the "One China" policy and expressed opposition to the elections held in Taiwan. He emphasized the joint efforts of Azerbaijan and China in addressing terrorism, extremism, separatism, and radicalism.
The discussions also focused on collaboration within international organizations, with particular attention to the Middle Corridor. Both leaders noted a significant increase in cargo shipments by Chinese companies via this route, alongside a marked rise in trade turnover.
Inter-parliamentary cooperation was another key topic, with both sides expressing satisfaction with the strengthening of ties between their legislative bodies and friendship groups. The potential for deeper cooperation between the New Azerbaijan Party and the Communist Party of China was also highlighted, along with discussions on youth, culture, and sports initiatives.
The possibility of establishing a joint Azerbaijan-China University was explored, alongside cooperation in renewable energy. China's BYD company has been selected as a strategic partner for exporting electric vehicles to Azerbaijan and for local production of electric buses.
