Baku: Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement declaring that Armenia must amend its Constitution if it is interested in signing a peace treaty. The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ayxan Hacizadeh, responded to claims made by Armenia's Foreign Minister, Ararat Mirzoyan, during a press conference with Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Seyed Abbas Araghchi.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the remarks from Armenia on March 25, 2025, suggesting that Azerbaijan introduced new conditions after an agreement on the peace treaty's text, are deemed unfounded. Azerbaijan asserts that the removal of constitutional provisions concerning Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as the official dissolution of the Minsk Group, have been central issues in negotiations over the past two and a half years.
Azerbaijan emphasizes that evidence of Armenia's territorial claims through its Constitution, national legislation, court claims, and political statements was presented during a meeting in Washington in May 2023. These matters are known to third countries, reinforcing Azerbaijan's position that Armenia's claims aim to mislead the international community.
The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs maintains that Armenia must promptly amend its Constitution, renounce territorial claims against Azerbaijan, and cooperate in the dissolution of the Minsk Group to progress toward a peace treaty.
