BAKU: Azerbaijan detained 52 foreigners last month for border violation, seizing contraband worth AZN 3.8 million. In October 2024, the State Border Service of Azerbaijan reported significant achievements in securing the state border and combating smuggling, illegal migration, and drug trafficking. According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Press Center of the State Border Service revealed that 65 individuals were detained for violating the state border. Among these were 22 Pakistani, 13 Azerbaijani, 22 Afghan, 3 Algerian, 1 Iranian, 1 Moroccan, 1 Bangladeshi, 1 Turkish, and 1 Syrian national. As part of the initiative against illegal migration, 14 individuals were apprehended while attempting to cross the border using forged documents, including date stamps, passports, or documents belonging to others. Additionally, the report highlighted that 953 individuals were detained for violating border regime rules, with appropriate measures taken against them. Anti-crime measures resulted in the detention of 319 in dividuals wanted by Azerbaijani law enforcement agencies, who were subsequently handed over to the relevant authorities. Furthermore, 515 people banned from leaving the country were prevented from exiting, and 21 people banned from entry were stopped from entering the country. Efforts against drug trafficking led to the seizure of 351 kilograms and 553 grams of narcotics, along with 15,665 pills classified as potent narcotic substances. Anti-smuggling operations resulted in the seizure of contraband items valued at a total of 3,888,079 AZN, including medicines, alcoholic beverages, and tobacco products. The State Border Service emphasized that efforts to ensure the reliable protection of state borders are ongoing.
