Azerbaijan Directs Domestic and Georgian Markets for Euro-5 Diesel

Baku: Azerbaijan is now focusing its diesel production on the domestic market and neighboring Georgia, following a significant improvement in the quality of its diesel exports. The Heydar Aliyev Oil Refinery, a key player in Azerbaijan's oil industry, has increased its processing depth, impacting diesel transshipment operations at SOCAR's Kulevi terminal in Georgia, as revealed by the terminal's General Director, Ilgar Alizade, during the Caspian and Central Asia Oil Trading and Logistics Forum.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Ilgar Alizade explained that modernization efforts at the Heydar Aliyev Oil Refinery have resulted in the production of Euro-5 diesel, which is now supplied to Azerbaijan's domestic market and exported to Georgia. This shift comes as the refinery moves away from exporting lower-quality diesel that was prevalent in previous years.

Ilgar Alizade further noted that Azerbaijan's diesel exports have decreased compared to 1.5 to 2 years ago, reflecting the country's strategic decision to enhance the quality of its fuel products and focus on regional markets. This development highlights Azerbaijan's commitment to improving its oil processing capabilities and aligning with international fuel standards.
