BAKU: Azerbaijan has initiated a humanitarian mission to Syria, dispatching a convoy laden with essential aid to address the ongoing humanitarian issues in the region. The convoy, which departed from Baku on December 30, comprises 10 trucks carrying nearly 200 tons of food and grocery products, as announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the aid is set to traverse through Georgia and Turkey before reaching its destination at the ‘Chobanbey’ crossing point on the Turkish-Syrian border. The distribution of these supplies is earmarked for Idlib city in the Syrian Arab Republic, with logistical support from Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD).
The initiative comes as part of Azerbaijan’s response to the humanitarian challenges that have emerged following the collapse of the Assad regime in Syria. Representatives from Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs were present at the ceremony to send off the aid convoy, underscoring the country’s commitment to alleviating the humanitarian crisis in Syria.
