Azerbaijan Identifies 91 Citizens as Victims of Human Trafficking Across Multiple Countries

Baku: A total of 91 victims of human trafficking, comprising 90 women and 1 man, have been identified in recent criminal cases, with all victims being citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the details of these cases are highlighted in the Annual Report of the National Coordinator on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings (2024). This report was the focus of discussions at a joint meeting of the Human Rights Committee and the Committee of Law Policy and State-Building of the Milli Majlis, Azerbaijan's Parliament.

The report revealed that 53 of the victims were found in the Republic of Trkiye, 35 in the United Arab Emirates, and 2 in the State of Qatar, all subjected to sexual exploitation. Additionally, 1 individual was identified as a victim of labor exploitation within Azerbaijan.

The victims' ages ranged from 18 to over 35 years, with 12 individuals aged 18-25, 49 aged 25-35, and 29 over 35 years old. Of these, 19 were from Baku, while the remaining 72 hailed from other cities and districts across the country. The exploitation period for 78 of the victims spanned from 2015 to 2023, with 13 cases occurring in 2024.
