Azerbaijan Increases Electricity Output in Early 2025

Baku: Azerbaijan generated 8,789.8 million kWh of electricity from January to April 2025, marking a 1.6% increase compared to the same period last year.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the State Statistics Committee revealed that of the total electricity generated, 8,485.4 million kWh was commercial output, reflecting a 1.5% rise year-on-year.

Thermal power plants accounted for the largest share, generating 7,287 million kWh. However, this figure represents a 2.1% decrease compared to the same period in 2024. The remaining electricity was produced by hydropower plants and other alternative and renewable energy sources.

Electricity production from hydropower plants reached 1,063.2 million kWh, marking a significant increase of 35.9% compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, electricity from waste incineration plants was recorded at 74.2 million kWh, showing a decrease of 6.7%. Wind power plants produced 5.6 million kWh of electricity, which was a significant drop of 71.6%, whereas solar power plants generated 129.6 million kWh, an increase of 10.7%.

These figures underscore Azerbaijan's ongoing efforts to diversify its energy sources and increase overall electricity production.
