Azerbaijan Plans Reconstruction of Key Reservoirs in Liberated Regions

Baku: Azerbaijan has prepared project estimate documents for the reconstruction of several key reservoirs in its recently liberated territories. Rafig Aslanov, head of the State Water Use and Protection Control Service under the State Water Resources Agency, announced the development during a public hearing of the Parliamentary Committee on Agrarian Policy. The hearing focused on "Support for Entrepreneurship in the Agricultural Sector: Outcomes and Prospects," as reported by APA.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the reconstruction will include the Sarsang Reservoir, with a capacity of 560 million cubic meters, along with other reservoirs in Aghdam, Aghdara, Kalbajar, and additional liberated areas. Aslanov highlighted the collaborative construction of the Khudafarin and Giz Galasi reservoirs on the Araz River with Iran, emphasizing the importance of efficient water use. Comprehensive measures taken have resulted in the collection of 4.3 billion cubic meters of additional water in reservoirs for 2024.

He further stated that 1,431,000 hectares of agricultural land have been supplied with irrigation water, ensuring no issues with irrigation of cultivated lands based on current water reserves. Project estimate documents for the Turyanchay Reservoir have also been prepared, pending a decision by the Water Commission for its construction.
