Baku: Azerbaijan is set to implement a significant change in the taxation of journalists, as the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament) discussed proposed amendments to the Tax Code. These amendments would exempt 75% of journalists' incomes from income tax without any conditions, marking a substantial shift in the financial landscape for media professionals in the country. According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the proposal was presented during a session of the Milli Majlis, where members deliberated the draft law. The law specifies that individuals engaged in journalistic activities and earning up to 45,000 AZN annually (excluding expenses) will benefit from the tax exemption. If the legislation is enacted, it will take effect on January 1, 2025. The proposed draft law was put to a vote and successfully passed in its first reading, indicating a strong likelihood of its final adoption. The initiative reflects a move to support journalism in Azerbaijan by reducing the financial burden on those working within t he industry.
