Azerbaijan SBS Detains Individuals for Smuggling Drugs from Iran Using UAVs

Lankaran: The State Border Service of Azerbaijan has detained two individuals involved in smuggling drugs from Iran using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The incident occurred on April 8 in the service area of the "Lankaran" border detachment, where a border patrol observed a UAV dropping a small package near the border line, before returning towards Iran, as reported by the State Border Service's Press Office to APA.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the border outpost was promptly put on alert under the 'To Arms' command to secure the area. Following a border search and operational measures, Lankaran resident Anar Rasim Hasanov, born in 1988, was detained while attempting to retrieve the package. Razim Mahyaddin Huseynov, born in 1985 and a resident of the Gubadli region, was also detained while waiting in a car nearby.

During initial interrogation, both detainees confessed to being at the scene to collect 4 kilograms and 504 grams of marijuana that had been dropped by the UAV. Further investigations revealed that both individuals have prior criminal records. Operational-investigative measures continue as authorities delve deeper into the case.
