Baku: Azerbaijan has seen a remarkable increase in its green energy production over the past year, doubling its output. The total production of green electricity reached 28,394.1 million kWh last year, Azeri-Press News Agency reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the breakdown of electricity production reveals that 24,543.2 million kWh was generated at Thermal Power Plants (TPPs), 3,011.0 million kWh at Hydroelectric Power Plants (HPPs), and 839.9 million kWh from other sources. Wind power plants contributed 51.1 million kWh, solar power plants delivered 556.3 million kWh, and the Solid Waste Incineration Plant added 232.5 million kWh to the production mix.
Electricity production from green energy sources in 2024 increased by 1,728.7 million kWh compared to the previous year, reaching a total of 3,850.9 million kWh. The bulk of electricity production was handled by 'Azerenerji' OJSC, which generated 25,138.6 million kWh, including 22,322.9 million kWh at TPPs and 2,815.7 million kWh at HPPs. The Nakhchivan AR State Energy Service contributed 490.4 million kWh, with various contributions from TPPs, HPPs, and solar plants.
In addition, 'Azerishiq' OJSC's wind power plants produced 38.5 million kWh, while independent power plants generated 2,726.6 million kWh. During this period, the country exported 1,397.5 million kWh of electricity and imported 170.5 million kWh.
In December 2024 alone, the country produced 2,466.4 million kWh of electricity. In the same month, electricity exports totaled 142.3 million kWh, while imports were recorded at 10.6 million kWh.
