Baku: Losses in the main gas pipelines in Azerbaijan have significantly reduced by more than 58% during the first nine months of this year. In January-September, the country reported a loss of 29.6 million cubic meters of gas in its main pipelines, marking a 58.4% decrease compared to the same period last year, as reported by the State Statistics Committee to APA-Economics. According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the previous year's losses amounted to 50.7 million cubic meters during the corresponding period. This reduction is a significant development in the country's energy sector, showcasing an improvement in the efficiency of gas transportation. Furthermore, in January-September of this year, Azerbaijan transported 29,571.2 million cubic meters of gas through its main pipelines, reflecting a 0.5% increase from the previous year. A substantial portion, 56.8%, of this gas transportation was conducted via the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum South Caucasus pipeline, through which 16,802.8 million cubic meters of gas wer e transported, marking a 2.34% increase. It is noteworthy that last year saw a loss of 59.8 million cubic meters of gas in Azerbaijan's main pipelines, which was 18.2% more than in 2018. In 2023, a total of 39,283.3 million cubic meters of gas were transported through the main pipelines, representing a 0.1% increase over the previous year. The Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum South Caucasus pipeline played a crucial role, transporting 21,800.1 million cubic meters of gas, which is a 4.8% increase compared to 2022.
