Azerbaijan set to present green buildings roadmap ahead of COP29

BAKU: A roadmap for the construction of green buildings in Azerbaijan will be presented ahead of COP29, a specialist in sustainable finance at the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Leyla Huseynli said at a conference on "Innovative solutions for sustainable microfinance" today, Trend reports. "The IFC intends to establish a new regulatory and support framework for green building construction in Azerbaijan soon. This initiative will stem from a memorandum of understanding with the State Committee on Architecture and Urban Planning, which will guide the development and presentation of the roadmap for green buildings. The roadmap is expected to be unveiled ahead of COP29," she said. To note, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be held in Azerbaijan in November this year. The decision was made at the plenary meeting of COP28 held in Dubai on December 11 last year. The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement sign ed at the Rio Earth Summit in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference in the climate system. The acronym COP (Conference of Parties) stands for Conference of Parties, which is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change. A total of 198 countries are parties to the convention. Unless the parties have decided otherwise, COP is held annually.
