Azerbaijan State Border Service Thwarts Drug Smuggling Attempt from Iran

Baku: An attempt to smuggle a significant quantity of narcotic substances from Iran into Azerbaijan was successfully thwarted by the State Border Service. The incident occurred on April 22 in the Goytapa border detachment area, as reported by the Press Center of the State Border Service.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the border guards were alerted with the "To Arms!" command, swiftly securing the area and initiating a border search. This response led to the detention of three individuals suspected of involvement in the smuggling operation.

The detained individuals, identified as Namik Hamil Mehraliyev (born in 1996), Peyman Ahmad Babayev (born in 1993), both residents of the Masalli district, and Mohammad Rashid Javadov (born in 1993), a resident of Baku, were apprehended while traveling in a "Toyota Prius" with the license plate "54-BK-650." They were suspected of attempting to retrieve a total of 53 kilograms and 865 grams of narcotic substances.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing as operational-investigative measures continue.
