Azerbaijan Unveils Diseases Increasing in Regions

Baku: There are differences in the quality of medical care among regions, and blood and blood system, and respiratory diseases have increased, said Isa Aliyev, Advisor to the Chairman of the Board of the State Agency for Compulsory Health Insurance, at a public hearing on the topic "Primary health care: current situation, work done, problems and ways to solve them" at a meeting of the Health Committee of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament).

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Isa Aliyev stated that these health issues constitute 30% of the cases of illness. He emphasized that these can be reduced through primary health care prevention. Aliyev highlighted a significant problem in the availability of primary health care, pointing out the lack of medical personnel and human resources. Although medical institutions have been constructed in Azerbaijan for decades, the focus remains on directing medical personnel to provide qualified assistance. A considerable portion of health sector funding is also allocated to this qualified medical assistance, a challenge that persists globally.

Aliyev explained that solutions to this issue have been explored by studying the healthcare systems of more than 30 countries. Strengthening primary health care is seen as a fundamental approach to addressing these challenges. According to WHO estimates, enhancing primary health care can potentially increase life expectancy by 6-7 years in low-income countries and by 2-3 years in high-income countries.
