Baku: Azerbaijani border guards intervened in an unauthorized excavation incident involving Iranian citizens at the Khudafarin Bridge. On May 11, at approximately 04:00, suspicious activity was observed near the bridge by the "Horadiz" border detachment of the State Border Service, as reported by APA, citing the Press Center of the State Border Service.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, four individuals from Iran were seen crossing into the Azerbaijani side of the Khudafarin Bridge and initiating excavation work on the structure's column. Border guards, assigned to protect the state border, quickly responded to the scene and informed their Iranian counterparts about the incident.
In the ensuing commotion, one of the border violators jumped into the Araz River, while the other three fled back to Iranian territory, where they were detained. An inspection at the site uncovered and confiscated the tools used for the excavation.
The detained individuals have been confirmed as citizens of Iran, and efforts are underway to locate the individual who jumped into the Araz River. Both Azerbaijani and Iranian authorities are participating in the search operations, with ongoing operational and investigative measures.
