Podgorica: The European Judo Championships in Podgorica, Montenegro, saw Azerbaijan's Rashid Mammadaliyev earn a bronze medal in the men's 73 kg weight category on the second day of the tournament.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Mammadaliyev's journey to the podium began with a victory over Benjamin Levi of Great Britain in the round of 16. He then advanced by defeating Otari Kvantidze of Portugal. In the quarterfinals, Mammadaliyev continued his strong performance by overcoming Joan-Benjamin Gaba from France, a competitor previously defeated by Hidayat Heydarov at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Mammadaliyev's run in the tournament was halted in the semifinals when he faced Danil Lavrentev (IJF) and was defeated. However, he rebounded in the bronze medal match, securing a win against Hungary's Daniel Zegedi to claim a spot on the podium.
