LACHIN: A document establishing twinning relations between the cities of Lachin and Ukraine’s Irpin has been signed, Trend reports. A Ukrainian delegation visited Lachin, where it held meeting with personnel of the Special Representative Office of the President of Azerbaijan in the Lachin District. The purpose of the visit was to sign a memorandum of twin city relations between Lachin and Irpin. The meeting featured the Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan in the Lachin District Masim Mammadov, Irpin Mayor Oleksandr Markushin, and the First Secretary of the Ukrainian Embassy Andrii Onyshchenko. The memorandum was signed by Mammadov and Markushin. As a symbol of their twin city relationship, both sides exchanged gifts. According to the memorandum, the parties will collaborate through the exchange of information and experiences in areas such as the preservation of historical and cultural heritage, urban planning, environmental protection, landscaping, public transportation, information te chnology, energy efficiency, waste management, youth, and sports. The delegation was also introduced to Lachin city, visiting the local library, secondary school No. 2, the Hochazfilm studio, the Gilabi creative center, and the kindergarten in the Lachin district’s Sus village. “Today is a special day. We are opening a new chapter in the development of our relations. There will be many joint projects ahead, cultural exchanges, and economic initiatives. We’ll learn from each other and contribute to future exchanges of experience, including building effective cooperation,” the Ukrainian city’s mayor said. According to him, the support of the Azerbaijani people is invaluable for Ukraine. Markushin reminded that under the special instruction of the President of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani government, together with the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), quickly restored important buildings in Irpin, including Lyceum No. 12 named after Zarifa Aliyeva and the city clinic. Mammadov said that today’s meetin g is of great significance. “The signing of the memorandum aims to strengthen mutual ties and establish friendly relations. These connections will also foster development in the economic, cultural, tourism, and educational spheres between the communities of the cities. The city ties will include visits from sports and artistic groups and the exchange of opinions on organizing photo exhibitions reflecting the life of the cities and city management practices,” the official pointed out. He added that Irpin’s population of 100,000 includes more than 3,000 Azerbaijanis. “Of course, the role of our community in developing these fraternal ties in the future is exceptional. This will allow our compatriots living there to follow the processes of restoration and development in our liberated territories,” Mammadov added. Source: Trend News Agency
