Azerbaijani MFA Criticizes Armenian Foreign Ministry for Fabricated Statements

Baku: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has criticized the Armenian Foreign Ministry for issuing what it calls fabricated statements. Aykhan Hajizada, the Spokesperson for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, responded to a recent statement made by the Armenian Foreign Ministry on January 15, 2025.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Hajizada's commentary focused on allegations made by Armenia regarding the "massacre of Armenians" in Baku in January 1990. He stated that these claims are part of a systematic policy by Armenia to promote intolerance and ethnic hatred against Azerbaijan. Hajizada reminded Armenia of its own history of ethnic cleansing and massacres against Azerbaijanis during the 20th century and highlighted the deportations of over 450,000 Azerbaijanis from the former Armenian SSR between 1948 and 1953, and again starting from 1987.

Hajizada accused the Armenian Foreign Ministry of using fabricated propaganda to conceal the genocide and ethnic cleansing policies against Azerbaijanis, including the murder of 613 civilians in Khojaly. He also mentioned the violations of the rights of over a million Azerbaijanis for nearly three decades.

The commentary further alleged that the "Sumgayit massacres," attributed to Eduard Grigorian, were orchestrated by Armenians to rationalize the deportation and massacres of Azerbaijanis. Additionally, claims made by Armenians regarding compensation for alleged wrongs were dismissed as absurd, with Hajizada stating that Armenians profited from Baku oil and wealth to finance massacres and the destruction of Azerbaijani historical monuments.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry concluded that Armenia's approach to falsifying history is a threat to peace and promotes dangerous narratives.
