"During the ongoing conflicts, cases of peaceful people going missing occur," the chief of the Working Group of the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ismayil Akhundov said at the international conference on "Increasing national and global efforts to clarify the fate of missing persons”, APA reports.
He said that in the early 90s of the 20th century, as a result of the conflict that occurred as a result of Armenia's aggression against Azerbaijan, it was necessary to establish an institution related to missing persons: "Mines are the main obstacle to excavating grave sites known to us in the liberated areas. The information available to the commission shows that there are mass graves in the liberated territories where the Russian peacekeeping forces are temporarily deployed. In accordance with the plan, excavation and exhumation works are being carried out in those areas to identify grave sites."
