BAKU: Azerbaijan’s Azerenerji OJSC is constructing a new closed-type substation in Khankendi, a source from the company told Trend. “In September 2023, during local anti-terrorist measures in accordance with the instructions of the head of state, the OJSC’s special team began operational work, and within just four days, with the installation of new anchor supports, energy supply from the Shusha substation to Khankendi and the surrounding areas was ensured. However, because the 110-kilovolt lines’ service life expired and the Khankendi substation was under separatist control, emergency outages occurred frequently, resulting in prolonged disruptions. This is why, starting in the spring of this year, Azerenerji launched the construction of two-circuit high-voltage transmission lines, 110 kV Khankendi-1 and Khankendi-2, from the city of Shusha to Khankendi, traversing a complex mountainous and forested terrain. Azerenerji has already completed the overhead line, totaling 11 km, and is currently working on a 1. 8 km underground cable line. Most importantly, in Khankendi, construction of a 110.35.10 kilovolt closed-type substation based on a modern urban network model has begun. They have already completed most of the construction work. According to Teymur Abdullayev, head of the Public Relations Center of Azerenerji, the Khankendi substation is the first closed-type substation built in the territories liberated from occupation with a voltage class of 110 kV. Therefore, the building will house all equipment, including two transformers rated at 63 MVA, and distribution devices at 110, 35, and 10 kilovolts. Building a closed-type substation is more advantageous in terms of holding less area, extending the service life of equipment, meeting modern aesthetic standards, ensuring safety, and other factors. The new substation will be equipped with all necessary systems, from a modern fire protection system to cybersecurity. On the grounds of the Khankendi substation, auxiliary buildings including a warehouse, boiler ho use, and machinery repair area are also under construction. Work on the Khankendi substation is expected to be completed in the coming months,” the source added. Source: Trend News Agency
