Azerbaijan’s CEC chair rubs elbows with counterparts from wide range of countries

BAKU: The chairperson of the Central Election Commission Mazahir Panahov met with CEC members from Latvia, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Serbia, the Philippines, and Georgia, who are on a visit to Azerbaijan to observe the Azerbaijani Parliamentary election, Trend reports. Briefing the interlocutors on the electoral process, CEC Chairperson Panahov said: 'The election is being monitored by 598 international and more than 112,000 local observers, webcams have been installed at 1,000 polling stations across the country for direct and unhindered observation of the election process without any registration. The chairperson of the CEC stated that 6.4 million citizens will be able to vote in the extraordinary parliamentary election. 6 million 421 thousand 960 citizens will be able to vote in the extraordinary parliamentary election. A total of 990 candidates are running for seats in the Azerbaijani Parliament, and all opportunities have been created for their free campaigning under the requirements of the legislation. He noted that 305 candidates are representatives of 25 political parties. Noting that the media operate freely in the country and follow the electoral process without hindrance, Mazahir Panahov stressed that three organizations have applied to the CEC with a request to conduct an exit poll in the election. He added that 54 polling stations have been set up in the liberated territories to realize the constitutional rights of more than 42 thousand eligible voters. A total of 6,478 polling stations have been set up in the country, of which 6,343 are permanent and 135 are temporary. ''Extraordinary elections to the Azerbaijani Parliament are held for the first time in the entire sovereign territory of Azerbaijan, and comprehensive conditions have been created for the participants of the elections,'' the CEC's head said. Expressing gratitude for the sincere meeting, the guests expressed their satisfaction with their participation in the observation of the extraordinar y election to the Azerbaijani Parliament, emphasizing that they actively monitor the processes. They stated that the electoral process was conducted transparently under the requirements of the legislation and noted the high activity of voters at the polling stations.
