Azerbaijan’s Media Development Agency Extends Condolences Over Death of Russian Journalists

Baku: Azerbaijan's Media Development Agency expressed its condolences over the death of Russian media representatives, as reported by APA. The incident involved the tragic loss of media professionals from the Russian Federation, including Alexander Fedorchak, a military correspondent for the Izvestia newspaper, Andrei Panov, an operator for the Zvezda channel, and Alexander Sirkeli, a driver for the film crew. Additionally, Nikita Goldin, a reporter for the Zvezda channel, sustained serious injuries.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Media Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan conveyed its deep sorrow over the incident. The agency extended its sympathies to the families of the deceased media representatives and the Russian media community and wished the injured journalist a swift recovery. The statement emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of journalists operating in conflict zones.

The agency highlighted the historical context of similar losses suffered by Azerbaijani media due to Armenian aggression. Notable incidents include the 1991 murder of Salatan Askerova from the Azerbaijani Youth newspaper and the deaths of Magerram Ibrahimov, a correspondent for the Azerbaijani State News Agency, and Siraj Abyshov, an Azerbaijani television cameraman, in 2021. These journalists were killed in Susuzlug village, Kyalbajar district, Azerbaijan, after hitting an anti-tank mine laid by Armenian armed forces.

The Media Development Agency stressed the necessity of providing safe conditions for journalists to gather information, particularly in active conflict zones, as stated on their social media account.
