Baku Court Sentences Ivan Svetlichny to 16 Years for Treason

Baku: The trial of Ivan Svetlichny, who was arrested and charged in a criminal case investigated by the State Security Service (DTX), has reached its conclusion. Today, the Baku Court on Grave Crimes, led by Judge Aygun Gurbanova, handed down a sentence of 16 years and 1 month imprisonment to Svetlichny for committing state treason.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Ivan Svetlichny, an Azerbaijani citizen, faced charges under Article 274 (treason) of Azerbaijan's Criminal Code. He was accused of engaging in espionage activities against Azerbaijan's state security, sovereignty, and defense capabilities. The charges alleged that Svetlichny had conducted tasks on behalf of foreign intelligence services.
