‘The Baku Global Climate Transparency Platform, established at the initiative of Azerbaijan within the framework of COP29, will be one of the important contributions of our country to the tackle against climate change. This once again shows that Azerbaijan presents itself to the world as one of the active states in solving issues of global importance,’ said Soltan Mammadov, MP of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament), in his statement to APA. The MP said that the main goal of the platform is to strengthen cooperation on climate transparency at the global level: “The Baku Global Climate Transparency Platform will assist the preparation of Biennial Transparency Reports. Azerbaijan will host one of the most prestigious events in the world this year. COP29 is an international event where issues of the utmost importance to all humanity, which concern the future of our planet, are discussed. Our country takes the fight against global climate change very seriously. The international community highly appreciate s Azerbaijan’s actions in this field and generally, its active participation in the global fight against climate change. Giving the right of hosting COP29 to Azerbaijan is the result of this trust.’ S. Mammadov emphasized that amid the background of environmental challenges, which are considered a threat to the entire planet, the energy and climate policy implemented by Azerbaijan in recent years envisages changing the architecture of energy security in the world in general: ‘One of the main goals is to meet the goal of meeting energy needs at the expense of renewable energy sources. The facts reflected in the reports of international organizations and the work done in the direction of gradually increasing the production of renewable energy in Azerbaijan give reason to say that our country has achieved serious success in this field. However, the tackle against climate change is a multifaceted process and requires being active not only within the country, but also on international platforms. Azerbaijan has ta ken many initiatives in this field in the past period.’ He noted that the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Climate Change Secretariat Simon Stiell’s appreciation of the launch of the Baku Global Climate Transparency Platform shows that this initiative has also attracted the attention of the international community: ‘The Baku Global Platform will further contribute to global efforts in the field of climate transparency.’ Source: Azeri-Press news agency
