Baku hosts 3rd meeting of Azerbaijan-Israel Intergovernmental Commission

The 3rd meeting of the Joint Commission between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the State of Israel has been held in Baku. Addressing the event, Azerbaijan's Minister of Economy, Co-Chairman of the Joint Commission Mikayil Jabbarov hailed the dynamic development of Azerbaijan-Israel relations in various fields, which is based on friendship and mutual trust. Speaking about the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Israel, the Azerbaijani Minister highlighted the role of non-oil products, saying that Azerbaijan has a great potential for exporting non-oil products to the Israeli market. Minister Jabbarov also touched upon the prospects of cooperation in several priority fields including investment, innovations, information, agriculture, ecology, food, water, energy technologies, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, food safety, cyber security, tourism, small and medium entrepreneurship and other fields. Mikayil Jabbarov provided insight into the economic achievements of Azerbaijan and touched upon opportunities created for investors here and invited Israeli companies to benefit from the favourable business climate created in the Alat Free Economic Zone and Baku International Sea Trade Port. Speaking about the friendly relations between the two nations, Co-chair of the Azerbaijan-Israel Joint Commission, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel Eli Cohen emphasized that the opening of the Azerbaijani embassy in Israel has raised the two countries` relations to a new stage of development. Eli Cohen stressed the possibilities of cooperation between the two countries in various fields, whereas, highlighting the role of the private sector. Touching upon the climate change, Azerbaijani Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mukhtar Babayev briefed the participants about the projects being implemented in Azerbaijan on ecology and environmental protection, and stressed the importance of expanding cooperation with Israel in these fields. The meeting discussed a number of issues of mutual interest in various fields. As a part of the 3rd meeting of the Azerbaijan-Israel Intergovernmental Commission, a number of bilateral documents were signed a cooperation agreement on environmental protection between Azerbaijan and Israel, cooperation agreement between SOCAR and the Israeli company Union Energy, as well as a joint declaration between the Innovation and Digital Development Agency of Azerbaijan and the Israel Innovation Authority, and memorandum of understanding between Azersu OJSC and Mekorot, the National Water Company of Israel.
