Belarus hopes for the resumption of supplies of agricultural machinery to Turkmenistan

More than 8,000 citizens of Turkmenistan study in Belarusian educational institutions. This was announced at a briefing on February 15 by the Ambassador of Belarus to Turkmenistan Vyacheslav Beskostny , writes Turkmenistan: the golden age.

In the summer of 2021, it was reported that most of the students in Belarusian universities are from Turkmenistan. In 2020/21 academic years - 8.738 people.

According to the Belarusian ambassador, the Turkmen market has a wide range of Belarusian food products, medicines, supplies of car tires, batteries and woodworking products.

In turn, Belarus imports oil products, textile products, crockery and household items made of plastic from Turkmenistan.

The diplomat cited data from the National Statistical Committee of the country, according to which the trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $20.8 million in 2021 (against $25.7 million in 2020). At the same time, Belarusian exports in this amount are $13.7 million, imports - $7.1 million, adds Orient.

“Given that Belarusian automobile, tractor and agricultural equipment has been successfully “working” in the national economy of Turkmenistan for a long time, the Belarusian side hopes to resume its supplies to the Turkmen market,” the ambassador said.

In 2019, Beskosty said that the maximum trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Belarus, which amounted to $319 million, was reached in 2013, when the construction of the Garlyk mine began. In 2018, it dropped to $32.2 million.

In October 2020, Belarusian businessmen complained about logistics problems due to closed checkpoints and due to the fact that only local carriers can transport goods through the territory of Turkmenistan, who pick up trailers with goods at the border to take them to the recipient.

Entrepreneurs also noted difficulties with currency conversion.
