At a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on October 22, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov approved the National Program of Turkmenistan for the Aral Sea for 2021–2025 and an action plan for its implementation, the TDH state news agency reported .
The program was adopted “in order to protect the environment, increase the efficiency of work to prevent climate change, improve the socio-economic and environmental situation in the region of the country in the Aral Sea zone, minimize the negative impact of the Aral Sea, as well as fulfill the tasks from the UN Resolution“ Cooperation between the UN and the International the Aral Sea Rescue Fund ”.
The draft document was presented to the President by Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov on September 16. The program covers the modernization of domestic land and water legislation, the implementation of preventive measures taking into account the impact of natural factors and the improvement of the quality of medical services , the improvement of the system of management and use of water resources, the formation of forest zones and the protection of biodiversity.
In January, the head of state was presented a project for the construction of an International Scientific and Clinical Center for Physiology, which, among other things, is planned to study the negative impact of the Aral zone on health.
In September 2020, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov ordered the construction of a Scientific and Clinical Center for Virology, Bacteriology and Epidemiology in the Bagabat village of the Ak Bugday etrap, which will study the negative impact of the consequences of the Aral Sea crisis on the region's natural environment and public health.
It should be noted that the mask regime and other preventive measures have been introduced in Turkmenistan, allegedly due to the negative impact of the dust brought from the Aral Sea zone.
