During a telephone conversation on May 16, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty Milli Gengesh (upper house of parliament) of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov discussed the Inter-Parliamentary Forum of Central Asian countries and Russia held in Ashgabat with President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev .
According to the state news agency TDH , the head of Uzbekistan "noted the relevance of the proposals put forward by his colleague in the field of inter-parliamentary regional cooperation aimed at maintaining global peace and security."
The press service of Shavkat Mirziyoyev writes that during the conversation, the importance of expanding exchanges at the level of parliaments to promote cooperation in priority areas was noted.
The Uzbek side also supported the proposal to regularly hold the Inter-Parliamentary Forum, with the organization of the secretariat in Ashgabat.
On May 12, Ashgabat hosted the first Inter-Parliamentary Forum of the countries of Central Asia and Russia, initiated by Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Its participants spoke about the participation of parliaments in various international organizations, the expansion of trade and economic ties, as well as the environment and the COVID-19 pandemic.
After the Forum, a large-scale awards ceremony took place, at which the ex-president was awarded the Golden Order of Honorary Aksakal from Azerbaijan, the National Prize "For the sake of peace on earth" and the Golden Order "Ulu türk", and from Russia - the anniversary medal "IPA CIS. 30 years". Two awards: the Order "For Contribution to the Development of Cooperation" from Berdimuhamedov Sr. and the Order of Turkmenistan "For Contribution to the Development of Cooperation" from President Serdar Berdimuhamedov were received by the head of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko .
