Berdymukhamedov congratulated Putin on his birthday and offered to hold the Caspian summit in person, despite the pandemic

On October 7, a telephone conversation took place between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Russian President Vladimir Putin .

At the beginning of the conversation, the head of Turkmenistan "cordially congratulated his Russian colleague on his birthday and wished him good health and great success in his state activities," the TDH state news agency reported .

Then the parties discussed cooperation in the format of the "Caspian Five". Berdimuhamedov confirmed Turkmenistan's readiness to host the next Summit of the heads of the Caspian states this year.

Despite the difficulties caused by the difficult epidemiological situation in the world, the Turkmen side offered to hold it in person, the newspaper emphasizes.

“This is due to the need for detailed consideration of topical issues, including stability and security, ecology and environmental protection, economic cooperation in the Caspian. In addition, the Summit will provide an opportunity for bilateral meetings of the heads of the Caspian states. If necessary, Turkmenistan is ready to receive a representative of Russia to exchange views on the organization of the Summit, ”TDH notes.

At a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on September 20, the Foreign Ministry, Rashid Meredov reported on preparations for the 6th Caspian Summit (to be held this month) and the creation of an organizing committee to hold it at the proper level.

Berdymukhamedov also thanked Putin for delivering vaccines, PCR test systems and Russian-made medicines to Turkmenistan.

As for the growth of bilateral trade in 2021, according to Turkmen statistics, this figure for 8 months of this year amounted to 12.5% compared to the same period in 2020 and is equal to $ 1 billion 86 million.
