On January 12, President Gurbnaguly Berdimuhamedov held a meeting of the Security Council following the results of 2021, at which he separately touched on the topic of registration of internal migrants, the TDH state news agency reported .

After the report of the chairman of the State Migration Service Nazar Atagarayev , the head of state "noted the importance of registering together with the khyakimliks of citizens at the place of stay, who temporarily leave their place of permanent residence for other velayats."

“To ensure proper control,” the president instructed “to further improve internal migration activities,” the TDH emphasizes.

Registration (residence permit) is extremely important in Turkmenistan. For example, since September last year, only residents of Ashgabat with a residence permit receive food rations. It is also difficult to rent an apartment without registration, it is difficult to find a job or to place a child in school.

In the fall of 2020, a citizen of Turkmenistan, Annagozel H. , threatened to burn herself and her three children, as she could not get a residence permit due to bureaucracy and, therefore, could not legally get a job. After the publication, she was invited to the khyakimlik of the Makhtumkuli etrap of the Balkan velayat, where they made a residence permit and provided a job for her and her husband.
