In the evening of 7 February, 2020 President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov issued a decree to appoint Serdar Berdymukhammedov the Minister of Industry and Construction.
Pursuant to the aforementioned decree the head of state relieved his son of the position of the khyakim of Akhal velayat, who the latter has occupied since June 2019. Under Serdar's leadership the province became the first digital region of Turkmenistan and was the first in 2019 to execute the cotton harvest plan.
Prior to that, in January 2019 Serdar Berdymukhammedov was appointed deputy khyakim of Akhal velayat. Before his work in the region, he had occupied the position of Turkmenistan's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs since March 2018. He is also a member of Turkmenistan's Parliament.
