Berdymukhammedov attends the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the new village on the background of house mock-ups and cardboard solar panels and wind mills

President Gurbanguly Berdymukhmmedov attended the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the new village located on the bank of Altyn Asyr man-made lake. The ceremony brought together members of the government, representatives of the OSCE, the UN and other international organizations.

The festive concerts and performances, customary to such events, were held in the background of cardboard house models, which are scheduled to be eventually built here.

Moreover, the state information agency TDH reports that wind mills and solar panels, which will generate electric power, can be seen behind the models of to-be-constructed houses. It should be mentioned that the models were also made of cardboard.

A small pool was dug in the sand and covered with polyethlene to be filled with water for the ducks to swim.

According to TDH, the village will be built in two stages and the construction will be completed by 2025. A total of 212 houses, a rural council, a school, a kindergarten, a community centre, an outpatient clinic, a police and a fire fighting stations are scheduled to be built on the lake.

A combined solar and wind power station with a capacity of 10 MW will supply electricity to the village.

Let us recall that Altyn Asyr lake is filled with drainage waters from Lebap, Mary and Akhal. Environmentalists have repeatedly raised concerns over possible consequences after the man-made lake is fully filled.
