Berdymukhammedov opens a mosque in Lebap

The state information agency TDH reports that on 21 February, 2020 President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov paid a visit to Lebap velayat.

It should be emphasized that preparations for the visit of the head of state in Lebap velayat started a week ago. Correpondents of Chronicles of Turkmenistan report that pursuant to the order by the local authorities, the public utilities services in an emergency mode cleaned up the street round the clock and renovated the buildings located along the main avenues of Turkmenabat.

At Ashgabat airport the President was seen off by the khyakim of the capital Yaztagan Gylydzhov and members of the government arranged a red carpet welcome in Turkmenabat.

Upon his arrival in Lebap, the President immediately headed to the opening ceremony of a new mosque, the construction of which was launched in June 2015.

The mosque was designed to accommodate 3000 people with the space of the lower level of 3444 square meters for men and the upper level of 1509 square meters for females.

After inspecting the mosque and praying, Berdymukhammedov presented the mosque with a canvas with an inscription from Kaaba brought from Mecca.

The President reminded that similar mosques are being built across the country. Recently new mosques were opened in Mary and Dashogug velayatas and in Ashgabat in 2009, 2015 and 2018 respectively. Another mosque is currently under construction in Balkan velayat.

After arranging a sadaka (a charity dinner) Berdymukhammedov headed back to Ashgabat.

This time the head of state was seen off from Turkmenabat by members of the government who later greeted him in Ashgabat.
