Black Sea gas will start entering Turkey’s gas transportation system on April 20

Turkish state oil and gas company 'Turkish Petroleum International Co.' (TPAO) has completed the construction of a gas pipeline connecting the 'Sakarya' field on the Black Sea shelf with an onshore distribution terminal, TPAO reported. The process of laying pipes on land and under water within the framework of the gas production project at the 'Sakarya' field completed in November 2022. It is expected that gas from 'Sakarya' will start entering the Turkish gas transmission system on April 20, 2023. On March 29 , 2023 , the President of Turkey R.Erdogan said that on April 20 (the last day of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan), gas will begin to flow to a gas processing plant in Filhos, Zonguldak province. According to Fatih Donmez, Turkish Minister of Natural Resources and Energy, domestic gas will be available for consumption on the local market as early as May. According to the Turkish government, it is planned to extract about 10 mcm of gas from the 'Sakarya' field at the initial stage. By 2027-2028, the daily volume of gas production is planned to increase to 40 mcm a day. By the end of 2022, Turkey imported 54.7 bcm of gas (a decrease of 7%). At the same time, pipeline gas imports fell by 11% to 39.5 bcm (Russia - 21.4 bcm, Iran - 9.4 bcm and Azerbaijan - 8.7 bcm).
