Car Hits Schoolchildren in Azerbaijan’s Imishly, Two Students Killed

Imishly: A tragic incident occurred in the Yalavaj village area of Azerbaijan's Imishly district when a vehicle collided with schoolchildren, resulting in the death of two minors. The Republic Emergency and Urgent Medical Care Center received a call at approximately 12:50 PM on January 18, as reported by the Management Union of Medical Territorial Units (TABIB) in response to APA's inquiry.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, two emergency medical teams were dispatched to the scene. Three children sustained various degrees of injuries, and one was in critical condition when they were evacuated to the Imishly District Central Hospital. A male born in 1992 and a female born in 2015 were diagnosed with closed skull-brain trauma and are currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit.

Tragically, one of the evacuees was pronounced dead before reaching the hospital, and another child died before medical personnel arrived at the scene. The deceased minors were identified as the nephews of the police officer involved in the incident, APA reports.

Lent.az sources indicate that the traffic police inspector involved in the accident is in critical condition. The Press Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed to APA that the accident involved a State Traffic Police vehicle, which collided with the children after its path was obstructed by another vehicle. A criminal case has been launched, and the incident is under investigation by police and prosecutorial authorities.
